Aberteifi…

…oedd lleoliad digwyddiad diweddaraf Cartref Creative yr wythnos diwethaf.

Our latest Creative Conversation was entitled “Creativity Will Nourish You” and brought leading lights working in the food industry together to discuss how they work creatively.

Simon Wright (co-founder of Wrights’ Food Emporium, Llanarthne) spoke about how making food is inherently a creative act and spoke passionately about how society needs to re-think how it sources food in order to tackle social and health challenges.

Sophie Bennet-Alford from community kitchen Ein Cegin works with communities to grow and cook food. For her, food is a creative conduit to bring about social cohesion, raise social issues and foster change. Both Simon and Sophie spoke of the work their organisations are doing to inspire children to be creative with food.

Mae bwyd yn rhywbeth hanfodol ac mae’r ddau yn arwain prosiectau sy’n cyflwyno plant i gynnyrch ffres ac yn dysgu nhw sut I greu bwyd.

Ellen Wakelam’s business (In the Welsh Wind Distillery) creates whiskies and spirits employing all manner of creative thinking from the way in which the grains are grown to how the botanicals are foraged. For her, creativity also comes into play in how her produce is marketed and distributed.

Emma Williams from Y Felin in Llandudoch inspired the audience with the story of how her watermill continues to produce flour in a traditional way and the creativity of the millers over time to solve problems and adapt to challenges.

The theme of ‘adaption’ was one continued by Gabriele Landi who uses Y Felin’s flour to produce his bakes. He is constantly having to use his creative skills to overcome the challenges of producing “nutritious and honest bread” in an age when supermarket bread is so readily and cheaply available.

Mae’r Felin yn Llandudoch – sy’n gartref i Emma a Gabriele – yn enghraifft o fusnes sy’n gweithio’n greadigol er mwyn cynnal y busnes a pharatoi’r ffordd at y dyfodol.

The panel was asked a series of inspired questions by a thoughtful audience and the event was followed by a supper club of Sri Lankan flavours hosted by Jaya Flava.

The next Cartref Creative event will be “Creativity Will Save My Town” as part of the Neath Arts Festival on the 19th of October at 6pm in Neath. A discussion about the role creatives can play in town regeneration.
